ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for an evening of music by Hartford based composer, Jessica Rudman including the world premiere of the one-act opera "Marie Curie Learns to Swim," with libretto by Kendra Leonard; the monodrama "Trigger"; and the song cycle "Lady Macbeth" on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30pm at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford.

Each piece features strong female characters that must overcome adversity, to succeed and even survive. "Marie Curie Learns to Swim" is a telling of Curie's life through conversations between her and her daughter on a beach. As the opera unfolds we see that learning to swim presents a parallel to Curie's struggle to advance as a female scientist in a field dominated by men. "Trigger," is a short monodrama for soprano based on a true event of a police officer being caught on recording asking what an abuse victim did to deserve to be hit. In this riveting piece, Rudman tackles the important issue of domestic violence. "Lady Macbeth" is a song cycle with libretto by Kendra Leonard, scored for mezzo-soprano, clarinet, cello, and piano.
