ABOUT ABOUT

Hartford Opera Theater is excited to offer a program of three short operas titled Folxtales, which will be performed at Charter Oak Cultural Center on Saturday, June 4 at 3pm. These three operas will be accompanied by harp, flute, and clarinet. Our motto is "Opera for Everyone," and this passion both guides our decisions and determines our programming. Folxtales is a trio of performances: The Green Child by Ashi Day, based on the fairytale “The Green She-Devil” by Marcel Schwob and the English legend of the green children of Woolpit; Starsong by Elliot Yokum and Sarah Barker; and Owl Moon by Ellen Gilson Voth, based on the award-winning book by Jane Yolen.

In addition to bringing the complex art form of opera to families, these operas encourage audiences to keep their minds and hearts open to the ideas and hopes of children, to believe in the power of humanity, and to recognize that our choices today have a profound effect on future generations. Additionally, the operas will be interpreted in American Sign Language!
